Climate Change and Adaptation
The world is already experiencing changes in average temperature, shifts in the seasons and an increasing frequency of extreme weather events and other climate change impacts and slow onset events. The faster the climate changes, and the longer adaptation efforts are put off, the more difficult and expensive it could be.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concludes that the best estimate for global average surface air warming over the current century ranges from 1.8℃ to 4℃ (IPCC 2007). According to United Nations (UN), Over 50 per cent of India’s forests are likely to experience a shift in forest types, adversely impacting associated biodiversity and regional climate dynamics, as well as livelihoods based on forest products.
Climate change is evitable situation for the humanity. So appreciate the adaption and mitigation strategies has to evolved with the participation of the local community to save the earth resource.
Our team of scientist are equipped to study on the following issues by the latest technologies and participatory approach:
- Impact of erratic monsoons on rain-fed agriculture, peninsular rivers and water
- Decline in crop production by 1°C rise in temperature;
- Impact of Rising sea levels and their physical vulnerabilities
- Impact of Sea level rise on freshwater sources and mangrove ecosystems;
- Flood modelling and inundation studies
